چکیده
Abstract The chapter addresses the issues of disseminating knowledge and skills Sámi reindeer herders: frameworks, methodologies, ways transmission in husbandry. overviews existing teaching practices, learning levels, arenas, comparing traditional academic curriculum. authors discuss lifelong learning, systematic methods, responsibilities. findings are based on interviews with herders from Guovdageaidnu/Kautokeino, a literature review, author’s herding experiences.

Leading, learning and herding
We analyze a game theoretic model of social learning about a consumption good with endogenous timing and heterogeneous accuracy of private information. We show that if individuals value their reputation for the degree to which they are informed, this reduces the incentive to learn by observing others and exacerbates the incentive to consume the good before others, i.e., to attempt to be an “opi...
متن کاملLearning via Gaussian Herding
We introduce a new family of online learning algorithms based upon constraining the velocity flow over a distribution of weight vectors. In particular, we show how to effectively herd a Gaussian weight vector distribution by trading off velocity constraints with a loss function. By uniformly bounding this loss function, we demonstrate how to solve the resulting optimization analytically. We com...

Aims: The objective of this study was to investigate suicidal expressions among reindeer-herding Sami in Sweden. Subjects: A total of 315 reindeer-herding Sami (167 men, 148 women) were compared with geographically matched reference populations comprising 1354 persons (652 men, 702 women). متن کاملReindeer Herding in Transition: Historical and Modern Day Challenges for Alaskan Reindeer Herders
The people of northwestern Alaska have had a long relationship with local populations of Rangifer tarandus. During the last 200 years this relationship has changed from one of subsistence to overexploitation of caribou (the name for wild reindeer in North America), to commercial livestock production of semi domesticated reindeer and now may be returning to a subsistence economy based on caribou...
متن کاملHerding Folksongs
Cataloging a large, multi-media collection of traditional song and drama in preparation for online presentation highlights issues of song identity and access in the context of contemporary digitized archives. In the James Madison Carpenter collection a particular folksong sung by a particular individual may exist in multiple manifestations: typed song text, sound recording(s), and/or manuscript...
